The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is urging Governor Dauda Lawal to reconsider the recent disengagement of more than 3,000 civil servants from the state workforce. In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, the APC expressed concern over the sudden termination of employment for teachers, health personnel and other civil servants across the state’s 14 local government areas.
According to Idris, the affected workers had previously passed the government’s verification exercise, only to be subsequently asked to stop work. Many of these employees have dedicated between 10 and 20 years of service to the state and have large families depending on them. The APC spokesman described the mass disengagement as “arbitrary” and warned that it could exacerbate hardship and insecurity in Zamfara.
The party’s call for reinstatement comes amid worries about the potential impact of the sack on the state’s economy and social stability. Zamfara has faced significant challenges in recent years, including insecurity and poverty, and the APC has emphasized the need for the state government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens, particularly those who have devoted their lives to public service.
The decision to disengage the civil servants has sparked concern among stakeholders, who are calling for a review of the policy. The APC’s statement adds to a growing chorus of voices urging the government to reconsider its decision. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the state government will respond to the APC’s call for reinstatement and whether a solution can be found to address the concerns of the affected workers.
