A new terrorist group, known as the Wulowulo, has emerged in North-Central Nigeria, prompting concern from Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule. The governor revealed that intelligence reports indicate the Wulowulo group is a splinter faction of the Boko Haram sect. This development has raised alarm bells, as the group is reportedly active in parts of the North Central region, particularly in Kwara State.
Governor Sule expressed his concerns during an expanded security meeting in Lafia, where he emphasized the need for vigilance to prevent the infiltration of extremist elements into the state. He noted that the situation of insecurity in other parts of the country is a significant concern, and some of these threats are beginning to spread into Nasarawa State. The governor stressed that it is essential to take proactive steps to ensure that the Wulowulo group does not gain a foothold in the state.
The governor also mentioned the Lakurawa group, which has become a significant problem in Kwara State. Originally, this group was active in Kebbi and Sokoto States, but it has now become prominent in Kwara, a state in the North Central region. Governor Sule warned that the spread of these extremist groups poses a threat to the stability of the region and called for increased efforts to prevent their expansion.
In addition to the emergence of the Wulowulo group, Governor Sule also addressed recent incidents of violence in the state. He directed a full-scale investigation into the killings in Kokona Local Government Area, where seven people lost their lives in a land dispute between the Mada and Ninzom communities. The governor also expressed concern over rising cases of abduction in Lafia and Karu local government areas, urging security agencies to intensify their efforts and adopt new strategies to curb the menace.
The emergence of the Wulowulo group and the spread of extremist activities in North-Central Nigeria highlight the need for sustained efforts to address the root causes of insecurity in the region. Governor Sule’s call for vigilance and proactive measures to prevent the spread of these groups underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between security agencies, community leaders, and citizens to ensure the stability and security of the region.
