Russia and Morocco pledge to deepen cooperation during foreign ministers meeting

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita met in Moscow on Thursday for bilateral talks, during which they signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen the strategic partnership between their countries. The agreement calls for the creation of a joint committee to promote cooperation between Russia and Morocco.

In their discussion, Lavrov and Bourita addressed the ongoing conflict in Gaza, expressing satisfaction with the implementation of the first phase of the cease‑fire deal between Israel and Hamas. Lavrov praised Morocco’s efforts to promote a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue, highlighting King Mohammed VI’s role as head of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s Jerusalem Committee.

The two diplomats also examined the dispute over Western Sahara. Lavrov said that any solution acceptable to all parties, including Morocco’s autonomy plan, would be satisfactory for Russia. Bourita, in turn, appreciated President Trump’s efforts to establish a cease‑fire and expressed hope that all parties would honor the agreement, leading to a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.

The meeting reflects growing cooperation between Russia and Morocco on regional and international matters. Both countries share a common understanding of current developments in the Middle East, and their partnership is expected to play a significant role in promoting peace and stability in the region. The Russian foreign ministry announced the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, emphasizing its importance for the strategic partnership and for strengthening bilateral relations on key regional and international issues.

The situations in Gaza and Western Sahara remain pressing concerns for the international community. Cooperation between Russia and Morocco is expected to contribute to finding lasting solutions to these conflicts, and the partnership is likely to continue playing a significant role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
