Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri is optimistic about the future of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He says party members are working to rebuild the PDP into a strong, unified, and focused organization capable of leading Nigeria again. This confidence comes despite a series of high‑profile defections to other parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Recently, Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Douye Diri of Bayelsa State defected to the APC, dealing a significant blow to the PDP.
Nevertheless, Governor Fintiri remains bullish about the party’s prospects, citing ongoing efforts to strengthen its structures and prepare for upcoming challenges. On Thursday, he inspected the venue for the PDP’s forthcoming national convention, scheduled for 15 November, and praised the preparations underway in Ibadan, Oyo State. Leading the PDP National Convention Organising Committee Executive on the inspection visit, Fintiri commended Governor Seyi Makinde’s hosting of the event, describing it as “excellent” and indicative of the party’s readiness for the convention.
The governor’s comments suggest that, despite recent setbacks, the PDP is focused on regrouping and repositioning itself as a viable alternative to the ruling APC. The national convention is expected to be a crucial event in the party’s effort to revamp its structures and chart a new course ahead of future elections. As the PDP seeks to reclaim its position as a leading force in Nigerian politics, the success of the convention will be closely watched by political observers and stakeholders. The party’s ability to present a united front and articulate a compelling vision for Nigeria’s future will be key to its prospects in the years ahead.
