2027: Why Murray-Bruce joined APC - Dele Momodu

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rebuked former presidential candidate Dele Momodu, calling him a “serial political tourist” who lacks the credentials to advise on defeating President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Momodu had suggested that the opposition should exploit ethnic and religious divisions to win the election. APC state spokesman Mogaji Seye Oladejo countered that ethnic politics alone cannot overcome President Tinubu’s performance record.

Oladejo highlighted Momodu’s own political history, describing it as a series of experiments, misadventures, and failed attempts at relevance. He questioned Momodu’s authority to lecture on strategy, noting that his past electoral outings have been unsuccessful, with his polling agents unable to locate his tally on the result sheet. The spokesman stressed that the era of using ethnicity as a shortcut to power is over; the Nigerian electorate now prioritizes candidates who can deliver results rather than those who divide the nation.

Emphasizing President Tinubu’s efforts to rebuild Nigeria on the foundations of equity, inclusion, and reform, Oladejo cited infrastructural renewal, economic stabilization, and social investment as evidence of tangible progress. He advised Momodu to rediscover his own political direction before offering advice to others and warned the opposition against listening to individuals who have never won an election. According to Oladejo, the 2027 election will be a referendum on competence and performance, not on ethnicity or nostalgia.

The APC’s response signals confidence in President Tinubu’s record and readiness to face the opposition in 2027. The exchange underscores the evolving political dynamics in Nigeria, where ethnicity and performance are increasingly central to electoral contests, a debate that is likely to continue as the country approaches the next election.
