The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a weather forecast predicting sunshine and haziness across the country from Sunday to Tuesday. According to the agency’s weather outlook, sunny skies with a hazy atmosphere are expected over parts of Katsina, Yobe, Kano, and Jigawa State in the northern region on Sunday. The remaining parts of the region are anticipated to be sunny during the morning hours, with isolated thunderstorms expected over parts of southern Taraba later in the day.
In the central region, NiMet forecasts sunny skies with patches of clouds during the morning hours, followed by isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of Benue and Kogi in the afternoon or evening. The southern region is expected to experience a cloudy atmosphere with morning thunderstorms and light rains over several states, including Ebonyi, Ogun, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. Thunderstorms with moderate rains are predicted to occur over most parts of the region later in the day.
On Monday, NiMet anticipates sunny skies over the northern region during the morning hours, with isolated thunderstorms expected over parts of southern Kaduna and southern Taraba later in the day. The central region is expected to experience sunny skies with patches of clouds during the morning hours, followed by isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of southern Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, and Nasarawa. The southern region is expected to remain cloudy, with morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
On Tuesday, NiMet forecasts sunny skies over the northern region and sunny skies with patches of clouds over the central region. The southern region is expected to remain cloudy, with morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. The agency has advised the public to exercise caution while driving under rain and has urged farmers to refrain from applying fertilizers and pesticides before the rains to avoid leaching nutrients.
NiMet has also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective planning and has encouraged residents to stay informed through weather updates from the agency. The public has been cautioned to take necessary precautions, including fastening loose objects, disconnecting electrical appliances, and avoiding tall trees to minimize the risk of accidents. By providing timely and accurate weather forecasts, NiMet aims to promote public safety and support various sectors, including agriculture and aviation.
