The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has warned the public about fraudulent social‑media accounts that falsely claim to represent its Chief Executive, Gbenga Komolafe. In a statement, Head of Media and Strategic Communication Eniola Akinkuotu clarified that Komolafe does not maintain any presence on platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram or TikTok.
The commission urged people to exercise caution when encountering these fake accounts, which are likely being used for fraudulent purposes. Individuals should avoid engaging with such pages and rely instead on the NUPRC’s official social‑media handles and website for authentic information on statistics and activities.
This warning is part of the NUPRC’s broader effort to protect the public from impersonators and fraudsters. The commission emphasized that its Chief Executive has no social‑media accounts and called on the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity and allow authorities to bring perpetrators to justice.
In recent years, impersonation and fraud on social media have increased, affecting many individuals and organizations. The NUPRC’s advisory underscores the importance of verifying the authenticity of online accounts and being cautious with unfamiliar pages. By using the commission’s official channels, the public can stay informed and avoid the risks associated with fake accounts, contributing to a safer online environment.
