NDLEA busts drug dealer at Kano Secretariat, Operation Sharar

Kano, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested a suspect accused of drug trafficking at the Audu Bako Secretariat in Kano metropolis during a raid dubbed “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” the agency’s spokesperson, Sadiq Maigatari, said on Thursday.

According to the NDLEA statement, the arrest was the result of credible intelligence that led operatives to target drug‑selling operations inside the secretariat complex. When NDLEA officers arrived, the suspect fled to the second floor of a building and jumped from the structure in an attempt to evade capture. He was subsequently apprehended and parcels of marijuana were recovered from his possession.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the individual has been involved in drug peddling for more than two years. NDLEA Commander Dahiru Yahaya‑Lawal used the incident to caution that government offices will not be tolerated as havens for illicit activities.

This is a warning to all those who think government establishments can be used as a hideout for their illicit activities,” Yahaya‑Lawal said, adding that “Operation Sharar Mafaka” will remain active as the agency intensifies efforts to eliminate drug distribution points in Kano State and bring offenders to justice.

The NDLEA’s continued crackdown forms part of a broader national effort to curb the trafficking and consumption of illegal substances. The agency has previously launched several operations across Nigeria targeting drug networks in urban and rural areas alike. Authorities have not disclosed whether any additional arrests were made during the same raid.

The suspect’s detention is expected to lead to formal charges, and the recovered marijuana will be used as evidence in court. NDLEA officials emphasized that further intelligence‑driven operations will be conducted to disrupt drug networks operating within public institutions.

The ongoing operation underscores the agency’s commitment to enforcing Nigeria’s drug control statutes and safeguarding public institutions from being exploited for criminal purposes.
