Anti-ICE protesters clash with federal agents in Portland (VIDEO) — RT World News

A violent confrontation erupted outside a detention center for undocumented immigrants in Portland, Oregon, over the weekend. Protesters, including members of the anti‑fascist group Antifa, clashed with federal agents and police, launching fireworks at officers who responded with tear gas and pepper balls. Video footage circulating on social media shows the intensity of the encounter, in which Antifa demonstrators hurled explosive devices and tear gas at Department of Homeland Security agents trying to secure the driveway of the ICE facility.

The incident marks an escalation of tensions that have been building for weeks. Demonstrators have held rallies, blocked the entrance to the ICE center, and staged peaceful “No Kings” protest marches in multiple cities, including Portland, to oppose President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration. On Monday, a federal appellate court ruled that President Trump can deploy the National Guard in Oregon, pending further litigation. The president argues the deployment is necessary to curb riots and crime in cities governed by Democratic administrations.

Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield condemned the ruling, saying it lacked justification and placed the country “on a dangerous path.” The National Guard deployment is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to address what it describes as a growing law‑and‑order crisis. Trump has also considered invoking the Insurrection Act, which would grant him additional powers to quell civil unrest. Civil‑liberties groups and Democratic lawmakers oppose such measures, viewing them as an overreach of executive authority.

The situation in Portland and other cities remains tense, with protesters continuing to demonstrate against the administration’s immigration policies. As the conflict escalates, concerns grow about the potential for further violence and its impact on community relations. The federal court’s ruling and the National Guard deployment will be closely watched in the coming days as events continue to unfold.
