The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has urged President-elect Bola Tinubu to foster national unity through the establishment of a government of national unity and to expedite the process of national reconciliation. Despite the evident challenges associated with the recent election and the concerns raised by dissatisfied stakeholders, the party affirmed its support for the electoral outcome.

At a press briefing held on Thursday at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, the National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, congratulated Tinubu on his victory in the closely contested presidential election. He also commended the party’s presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, for his commendable performance during the election. Gabam stated, “We call on the President-elect to take deliberate practical steps in uniting the country, to bring the country together through a government of national unity; to fix our obvious national cracks, address the failings, heal the land, and fast-track the process of national reconciliation.”

Furthermore, the SDP congratulated all Nigerians for the peaceful and successful presidential and national assembly elections held on February 25, 2023, and specifically acknowledged Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress candidate, for his victory. The party also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission, led by Mahmood Yakubu, for successfully navigating the electoral process despite numerous challenges. Additionally, the SDP recognized the efforts of the runners-up and all presidential candidates who participated in the election, appreciating their willingness to serve the country and contribute to a competitive electoral landscape.
