The Lagos State Government has unveiled plans to collaborate with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to combat the sale and use of illicit substances within government-owned housing estates across the state. This initiative aims to promote a safer and healthier environment for residents.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Housing, Permanent Secretary Abdulhafis Toriola made the commitment during a courtesy visit from a delegation of NDLEA officials, led by Lagos State Commander Abubakar Liman Wali. Toriola commended the NDLEA for its efforts in combating drug trafficking and abuse, as well as its public sensitization and rehabilitation programs for victims of drug addiction.
The Ministry of Housing has expressed its readiness to support the NDLEA in its campaign to eliminate drug-related activities in Lagos housing estates. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has reaffirmed its commitment to building safer and healthier communities through collaborative efforts with relevant agencies. Toriola emphasized that the state government will continue to partner with agencies to promote a drug-free society, ensuring that housing estates are not used as breeding grounds for criminality or drug abuse.
NDLEA Commander Abubakar Liman Wali welcomed the Ministry’s willingness to partner with the agency, stressing the importance of discipline, patriotism, and community participation in the fight against drug abuse. The agency has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening preventive measures, enhancing public awareness, and ensuring that offenders face the full weight of the law.
The collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the NDLEA is a significant step towards addressing the issue of drug abuse in the state. With the rising concern of substance abuse affecting communities worldwide, this partnership aims to make a positive impact on the lives of residents in government-owned housing estates. As the state government and the NDLEA work together to implement this initiative, residents can expect to see increased efforts to prevent drug-related activities and promote a safer living environment.
