Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of Rivers State, has reflected on his experiences in addressing the security crisis that plagued the state during his tenure. Amaechi, who is currently seeking the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election, recounted how his administration successfully restored order in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
When Amaechi’s administration took office, Port Harcourt was grappling with rampant criminal activity, which had severely impacted economic activities and daily life. In a video shared on his Facebook page, Amaechi noted that robbery, kidnapping, and murder were prevalent, and hospitals were facing significant challenges. Social events, including parties, had also come to a halt.
However, within six months of assuming office, Amaechi’s administration had made significant strides in reviving the city. The government’s efforts led to the resurgence of economic activities, and social events began to take place once again. Amaechi attributed this turnaround to his administration’s determination to drive out criminal elements and encourage citizens to resume their normal activities.
Amaechi believes that his experience in tackling the security crisis in Rivers State gives him an edge over other aspirants in the ADC. He emphasized that his tenure as governor was marked by a unique set of challenges, including rising crime rates and social unrest. However, his administration’s ability to address these issues and restore stability to the state has equipped him with valuable skills and knowledge that can be applied to addressing the country’s current challenges.
The 2027 presidential election is expected to be highly contested, with various candidates from different parties vying for the top spot. Amaechi’s experience in governance and his ability to navigate complex security situations may be seen as an asset by voters. As the ADC prepares to select its presidential candidate, Amaechi’s reflections on his time as Governor of Rivers State may serve as a testament to his leadership capabilities and inform the decision-making process of party stakeholders.
