Instagram has introduced a new AI-powered feature called Restyle, which allows users to edit photos directly within the app’s Stories feature. This tool enables users to remove unwanted background elements, add new ones, or customize specific parts of an image, such as changing someone’s hair color or swapping in a different sky.
The social media platform is now testing Restyle Text and rolling out a new set of Restyle tools, which include Restyle Text, Restyle Video, and improved effect discovery. These features provide users with even more options to edit their Stories. To access the new Restyle tools, users can take a photo or video in Stories and tap the paintbrush icon, which will display options to add, remove, change, or apply themes.
In addition to the new tools, Instagram is also offering limited-edition seasonal themes and effects, including Halloween options like “ghost face” and “haunted mirror,” as well as Diwali presets such as “fireworks” and “diyas.” Users can browse or search these effects in the new effects browser.
Restyle Text, a new tool being tested with a small group of users, utilizes AI to generate custom fonts for Stories. Users can select from presets like “chrome” and “balloon” or create their own prompt. Restyle Video, on the other hand, adds AI-driven filters to motion clips, with preset effects like “snow,” “underwater,” and “golden hour.”
The new Restyle features are being rolled out across several countries, including the US, India, and Canada. Restyle Text will expand globally soon. These updates demonstrate Instagram’s ongoing efforts to enhance its editing capabilities and provide users with more creative options. As the platform continues to evolve, it is likely that we will see even more innovative features and tools being introduced in the future.
