David Olofu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and prospective aspirant for the Benue South Senatorial District position in 2027, has emphasized the need for commitment, unity of purpose, and coordination to address the developmental challenges in the district. Speaking during an interactive session with the Idoma Editors Forum in Abuja, Olofu expressed confidence that the challenges facing the region are surmountable with collective efforts.
As a two-time Commissioner for Finance in Benue, Olofu highlighted his experience and exposure as key factors that would enable him to provide the necessary coordination to overcome the challenges in the district. He noted that it is time for the people of Benue South to stop lamenting and instead focus on finding solutions to their problems. Olofu emphasized the importance of defining and developing a framework that incorporates the efforts of all stakeholders towards achieving the goal of making life better for the people.
The former Senior Technical Adviser to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) stressed that the development of the zone requires collective efforts by all sons and daughters, including those living outside the zone. He explained that the National Assembly’s role goes beyond lawmaking to ensuring good governance and positive impacts of laws on the people. Olofu pledged to constitute the Benue South People’s Assembly (BSPA) if elected, which would comprise representatives from the senatorial district and meet yearly to set agendas for the representatives.
Olofu’s vision for the zone includes setting up a constituency office to stimulate development and galvanize growth, as well as creating industrial corridors to curb unemployment and address security challenges. He has consulted widely with stakeholders and plans to continue these consultations to develop a comprehensive program for the district. With the 2027 elections approaching, Olofu sees an opportunity for the people of Benue South to do things differently and achieve the desired results. His message emphasizes the need for a collective approach to addressing the challenges facing the district and creating a better future for its people.
