Chukwuma Nwandugo, the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance in Ebonyi State, has firmly dismissed rumors suggesting that he has abandoned his party in favor of supporting Chief Ifeanyi Odii, his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He reiterated his commitment to the governorship race scheduled for March 11, 2023, emphasizing that he remains the official candidate for the Action Alliance. Nwandugo characterized the allegations of his defection to the PDP as fabrications propagated by mischief-makers and political propagandists. He stated, “I’m still the candidate of the AA in Ebonyi State, and my name is still very intact on the INEC portal.”
In a statement issued by Micheal Obasi, the Director-General of the Nwandugo Governorship Campaign Council, the campaign team addressed the circulating rumors. They clarified that these claims originated from social media and falsely asserted that Nwandugo had been abandoned by the Action Alliance, which allegedly adopted Ifeanyi Odii as its candidate for the upcoming elections. The campaign council denounced these rumors as “nothing but a lie from the pit of hell,” asserting that they were orchestrated by the Chairman of the AA in Ebonyi State to undermine Nwandugo’s support.
The statement further emphasized that the rumors were mere propaganda aimed at discouraging the dedicated supporters of Nwandugo, who have remained steadfast despite external pressures. The campaign council sought to dispel any confusion regarding the purported actions of the AA Chairman, Godwin Ukwu, and reaffirmed Nwandugo’s unwavering commitment to the governorship race. They declared, “Nwandugo is still in the race and has not and can never step down for any governorship candidate.” The council reiterated that Nwandugo remains the official candidate of the Action Alliance in Ebonyi, with his name securely listed on the INEC portal for the 2023 general election.
