Plateau: Troops launch manhunt for notorious bandit leader, Muhammed Sule

Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace have launched a manhunt for Alhaji Muhammed Sule, a notorious bandit leader operating in Plateau State. According to Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, the manhunt follows a recent raid on Sule’s residence in Rawaya village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where troops recovered weapons and ammunition.

The recovered items include two AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, one revolver pistol, six magazines, and 1,202 rounds of live ammunition. Intelligence reports have linked Sule to several attacks in the area, resulting in the killing of hundreds of innocent people and the rustling of thousands of cows. The military spokesman described Sule as a dangerous terror kingpin linked to a deadly Islamist terrorist group.

On October 19, 2025, troops raided Sule’s residence, but he was not found. The recovered weapons are currently in the troops’ custody, and the manhunt for the suspect is ongoing. In addition to the manhunt, troops of the Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai have apprehended several terrorists, collaborators, informants, sympathizers, and spies in various communities in Plateau State.

During the week in review, troops conducted offensive operations and responded to distress calls regarding terrorist activities in several local government areas, including Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Jos North, Riyom, Jos East, and Mangu. Similar operations were also conducted in Zangon Kataf, Jama’a, Kaura, and Tafawa Balewa local government areas of Kaduna and Bauchi States.

The operations resulted in the killing of some extremists, the apprehension of 24 others, and the rescue of three kidnapped victims. Troops also recovered weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and vehicles from the terrorists. The ongoing operations aim to curb terrorist activities and ensure peace in the affected regions. The manhunt for Alhaji Muhammed Sule and the apprehension of other terrorists demonstrate the military’s commitment to addressing security concerns in Nigeria.
