The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East has reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding and repositioning the party in Enugu State following recent political developments. This resolution emerged from a meeting between the South East PDP Special Committee on Enugu Affairs and the Enugu State Working Committee, chaired by Acting State Chairman Barr. Steve Oruruo. The gathering focused on reconciliation, revitalizing party structures, and re‑engaging grassroots stakeholders across the state’s 17 local government areas.

Chief James Ugwu, Chairman of the Special Committee and South East Secretary of the PDP, described the meeting as a rallying point for unity and renewed strength within the party. Despite recent political shifts, Ugwu emphasized that the PDP remains resilient and firmly rooted in Enugu’s political landscape. The party is mobilizing from the grassroots, reaching out to stakeholders, and realigning itself to reflect the will and aspirations of the people. Its long‑standing presence and achievements in Enugu will serve as the foundation for revival, with members assured that the structure remains strong and cohesive.

Engr. Sir Chigozie Igwe, Secretary of the Special Committee and South East Zonal Publicity Secretary of the PDP, called the engagement an important step toward repositioning the PDP and reclaiming its dominance in Enugu politics. Although Governor Peter Mbah’s exit from the PDP was a surprise, the party remains undeterred and focused on renewal. Since 1999, the PDP has been the cornerstone of Enugu’s political stability, and it is confident that its values, structures, and people‑centered ideology will guide it back to victory.

Acting Chairman Barr. Steve Oruruo praised the South East leadership for its steadfastness and reaffirmed his commitment to the collective revival of the party. The Special Committee on Enugu Affairs has been tasked with spearheading reconciliation efforts, strengthening party structures, and preparing the PDP for upcoming electoral contests. Its focus is on fostering unity, bridging internal divides, and revitalizing local structures to ensure the party remains a formidable political force.

With a renewed emphasis on unity and purposeful strategy, the South East PDP is optimistic about reclaiming Enugu’s Lion Building and restoring its legacy of responsive governance. The party’s efforts to rebuild and reposition itself are seen as crucial for maintaining relevance in Enugu State’s political landscape.
