Soludo Accused of Vote Buying in Anambra Election

Soludo has lost public confidence, now buying votes - Bolaji Abdullahi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has leveled allegations against Governor Charles Soludo, claiming he has lost public trust and is engaging in vote buying ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra. According to the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, this behavior represents a new level of desperation and impunity.

In a statement released on Sunday, Abdullahi noted that Governor Soludo’s actions are a clear indication that he has lost the trust of Anambra residents. Abdullahi argued that only a leader who no longer enjoys public support would openly engage in vote buying, which is a direct violation of the Electoral Act. Specifically, Sections 121 and 127 of the Act criminalize voter inducement in any form.

The ADC spokesperson urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take immediate action, emphasizing that the commission should not ignore this blatant abuse of power and disregard for the law. Abdullahi expressed concern that INEC might be turning a blind eye to these developments, stating, “I hope INEC is not pretending not to see it.”

The allegations come as the governorship election in Anambra approaches, with various parties and candidates vying for office. The Electoral Act is in place to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, and any violations can have significant implications for the outcome of the election. As the election draws near, the role of INEC in enforcing the Act and maintaining the trust of the electorate will be closely watched.

The situation in Anambra highlights the importance of electoral integrity and the need for all stakeholders to adhere to the law. The ADC’s allegations against Governor Soludo have brought attention to the issue of vote buying, which can undermine the democratic process. As the election approaches, it remains to be seen how INEC will respond to these allegations and ensure a free and fair election in Anambra.
