The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied the authenticity of a list of consensus candidates circulating on social media, calling it fake and politically motivated. The party says the list is a fabrication by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intended to create confusion ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
In a statement issued on Sunday, APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal accused the PDP of desperation to retain power through fraudulent means. He described the alleged list as an attempt to cause disharmony and division within the APC, citing it as evidence of panic within the PDP as the next election approaches. Lawal asserted that the false publication reveals the ruling party’s desperation to win re‑election and suggested that the PDP has already lost the forthcoming governorship contest.
The APC urged its members and the public to disregard the purported consensus list, labeling it a baseless fabrication. Lawal assured supporters that the APC has not compiled any consensus list of candidates for the 2026 election, emphasizing that all APC governorship aspirants are capable of defeating the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke. He advised the PDP to focus on legitimate political activities rather than engaging in fabrications, noting that APC members remain united and focused on reclaiming power in the state.
The denial comes as the 2026 governorship election approaches, with the APC seeking to unseat the incumbent governor. The party’s statement highlights the ongoing political tensions between the APC and the PDP in Osun State, as both parties engage in a war of words ahead of the election. While the APC has not yet finalized its candidates, the alleged PDP fabrication of the list may be an attempt to gain an upper hand in the political landscape.
