The Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, are targeting a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title at the 2025 tournament in Morocco. Their captain, William Troost‑Ekong, stressed the squad’s determination to win after a disappointing 2‑1 loss to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final of the 2023 edition. “We learned so much from the last AFCON final,” Troost‑Ekong said. “Looking back, Côte d’Ivoire were the better team on the day, but we gained experience—some of our players were in a first major final for their nation.” He believes those lessons will be invaluable as the team pursues the trophy.
The Super Eagles have been drawn in Group C with Uganda, Tunisia and Tanzania. Coach Éric Chelle’s side will rely on the experience gained from the previous tournament to navigate the competition and reach the latter stages. Troost‑Ekong emphasized this focus: “Now the target is to get there again, use that experience, reach the latter stages and know what to do to go all the way, hopefully.” With a strong squad and valuable experience, Nigeria are considered one of the favorites to win the title.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is set to kick off in Morocco, and the Super Eagles aim to bring home their fourth championship. As the tournament approaches, fans and pundits alike will watch closely to see whether the Nigerian team can translate its determination and experience into a coveted victory.
