Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and prominent contender for the National Chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has formally submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to vie for the position. The party’s Elective National Convention is slated for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Turaki, who has gained the support of a majority of the party’s stakeholders as a consensus candidate, submitted his forms at the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) Secretariat in Abuja. He was accompanied by friends and political associates during the submission. This development comes as the party prepares for its national convention, where key leadership positions will be contested.
The PDP has been engaged in internal deliberations to ensure a smooth convention. Turaki’s submission of nomination forms is a significant step in the contest for the national chairmanship position. Meanwhile, another contender, Alhaji Sule Lamido, a former Governor of Jigawa State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has also expressed interest in the position. However, he faced challenges in obtaining his nomination forms, according to earlier reports.
The upcoming national convention is expected to shape the party’s leadership and direction. As the PDP gears up for the event, the submission of nomination forms by contenders like Turaki marks a crucial phase in the selection process. The party’s stakeholders and members will be watching closely as the convention approaches, with the outcome likely to have significant implications for the party’s future.
The formal submission of nomination forms by Turaki and other contenders sets the stage for a potentially competitive contest. As the party moves towards its national convention, the focus will be on the candidates’ qualifications, vision, and ability to lead the party forward. The outcome of the convention will be closely watched, both within Nigeria and internationally, as the PDP seeks to establish its leadership and prepare for future elections.
