Anambra Election: 2 Polling Units Closed Due to Lack of Voters

Anambra Guber: Why voting will not take place in two Polling Units - Amupitan

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that voting will not take place in two polling units in Anambra State during the upcoming governorship election on November 8. According to INEC Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, this decision is due to the lack of registered voters in these units.

At a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) on the Anambra Governorship Election, Prof Amupitan revealed that the commission plans to deploy 24,000 personnel for the polls. The election will be held in 5,718 out of 5,720 polling units in the state, with the two exceptions being the units without registered voters.

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, represented by Hassan Abdullahi, emphasized that robust security measures are being implemented to ensure a smooth election process. These measures include enhanced surveillance, deployment of sufficient security personnel, and improved intelligence gathering to prevent any attempts to disrupt the electoral process. The ICCES is also engaging with political party leaders and local stakeholders to promote peace and discourage violence during the elections.

All participating political parties and their candidates are expected to advocate for peace and encourage their supporters to conduct themselves in a manner that respects the integrity of the electoral system. The ICCES has warned that any form of violence during the elections will be met with a strong and uncompromising response.

The Anambra State governorship election is a significant event in Nigeria’s electoral calendar, and the measures being taken by INEC and the ICCES aim to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful process. With the deployment of 24,000 personnel and the implementation of robust security measures, the stage is set for a successful election. The people of Anambra State will go to the polls on November 8 to choose their next governor, and the outcome will be closely watched by the nation and the international community.
