APC Forum Rejects Plateau Leaders’ Stance on Mutfwang

Defection: North-Central APC Forum insists on Mutfwang, rejects Plateau party leaders' resolution

The North-Central All Progressives Congress Forum has rejected a resolution by Plateau State APC leaders opposing Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s potential defection to the party. The Plateau APC leaders had unanimously endorsed a motion against Mutfwang’s possible joining of the party at a stakeholders meeting in Jos on October 17, 2025. However, the North-Central APC Forum, comprising stakeholders from the North-Central states, claims that those opposed to Mutfwang’s defection are acting out of self-interest.

The Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, stated that the majority of the Plateau APC stakeholders who passed the resolution are individuals who failed to deliver their polling units for the APC in the last election. He noted that these individuals are now positioning themselves for federal appointments in President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The Forum specifically mentioned that the APC governorship running mate in the 2023 election lost his polling unit and ward to the PDP, yet is now opposing Mutfwang’s potential defection.

The North-Central APC Forum restated its call for Mutfwang to leave the Peoples Democratic Party, describing it as a “drowning party.” The Forum believes that Mutfwang’s defection to the APC would add value to the party and increase its chances of winning the governorship seat in Plateau State. The Forum suggested that appointments and rewards within the party should be based on performance in elections, rather than personal interests.

The Plateau chapter of the APC had earlier attacked Mutfwang for claiming that he was under pressure to join the APC. However, the North-Central APC Forum confirmed that Mutfwang is indeed under pressure to join the party, with influential figures in the Presidential Villa backing the Forum’s calls for him to defect. The Forum vowed to continue its efforts to convince Mutfwang to join the APC, citing the benefits for both the party and the governor.

The development highlights the ongoing power struggles within the APC, as different factions jockey for position and influence. The North-Central APC Forum’s stance on Mutfwang’s potential defection underscores the party’s efforts to strengthen its presence in Plateau State and consolidate its power at the national level. As the APC navigates these internal dynamics, the party’s ability to present a united front will be crucial in its bid to maintain power and achieve its political goals.
