The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to recent comments made by Phrank Shaibu, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Shaibu had criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision-making process, describing it as a “pardon U-turn.” The APC chapter has dismissed the criticism, stating that it is a “cocktail of ignorance, frustration, and political bitterness” from a camp seeking attention.
According to Mogaji Seye Oladejo, the party’s state chapter spokesman, President Tinubu’s leadership is guided by law and not emotion. Oladejo emphasized that leadership is not about making noise, but about taking responsibility. He noted that the president’s decisions are driven by due process, the rule of law, and national interest, rather than impulsive and uninformed commentary.
The APC chapter spokesman pointed out that in advanced democracies, informed review and reconsideration are marks of credible leadership and institutional maturity, rather than weakness. He criticized the opposition for weaponizing ignorance and attempting to create controversy where none exists. Oladejo stated that consultation and constitutional refinement are essential aspects of good governance, and should not be misinterpreted as a “U-turn.”
The APC’s response comes as President Tinubu continues to face criticism from opposition parties. The party has urged Nigerians to ignore what it describes as “desperation politics” and to focus on the progress being made by the current administration. Oladejo emphasized that President Tinubu is committed to strengthening institutions and leading with constitutional discipline, courage, and clarity of purpose.
The exchange highlights the ongoing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition in Nigeria. As the country continues to navigate its democratic journey, the APC’s response underscores the importance of informed commentary and responsible leadership. With President Tinubu at the helm, the party is confident that Nigeria will continue to move forward, despite attempts to create controversy and undermine the government’s efforts.
