Lilian Adebayo, wife of the Social Democratic Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has expressed confidence that her husband’s party can unseat the ruling All Progressive Party in the 2027 election. She made this statement during an interview with journalists in Abuja, asserting that Nigerians should vote out the APC due to the economic hardship the party has inflicted on citizens.
According to Mrs. Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party has overcome its internal crisis following the expulsion of its former chairman, Shehu Gabam, and other executives. She emphasized that Nigerians should honestly assess their situation and consider voting for a change in leadership. “If Nigerians think that the ones they consistently vote for would move the country forward, they live in denial,” she said, referring to her husband’s chances of winning the election.
The Social Democratic Party recently expelled Gabam and other party executives, and the party’s state chairmen have called for an investigation into alleged misappropriation of funds by Gabam. The chairmen have urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the police to look into the matter and recover any misappropriated funds.
The development comes as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general election, with the Social Democratic Party seeking to capitalize on growing dissatisfaction with the ruling All Progressive Party. The party’s ability to resolve its internal crisis and present a united front will be crucial in its bid to unseat the incumbent government.
With the 2027 election approaching, Nigerian voters will be closely watching the developments in the Social Democratic Party and other opposition parties. The party’s message of change and its ability to address the country’s economic challenges will likely resonate with voters who are seeking alternatives to the current government. As the election season heats up, the Social Democratic Party’s chances of winning will depend on its ability to mobilize support and present a credible alternative to the ruling party.
