Lamido Sues PDP Over National Convention

PDP crisis deepens as Sule Lamido asks court to stop convention

A former governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has filed a lawsuit against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to halt the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15. The convention, set to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, aims to elect new national officers to manage the party’s affairs.

Lamido, a foundation member of the PDP and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, is contesting the convention’s planning process. His suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CD/2229/2025, alleges that he was unfairly denied a nomination form to run for the office of national chairman. Lamido’s lawyer, Jephthah Chikodi Njikonye, SAN, filed the suit on his behalf.

The plaintiff claims that the PDP failed to adhere to its constitution and guidelines in organizing the convention. Specifically, he argues that the party did not provide equal opportunities for eligible members, including himself, to contest elections during the convention. Lamido is seeking a mandatory order of injunction to compel the party to make the nomination form available to him.

Furthermore, Lamido is requesting an order prohibiting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from supervising or recognizing the convention until he is permitted to contest. This move could potentially delay or disrupt the party’s plans to elect new national officers.

The lawsuit highlights the internal conflicts within the PDP, which has been facing challenges in recent times. The party’s national convention is a crucial event that could shape its future direction and leadership. The outcome of Lamido’s lawsuit will be closely watched, as it may impact the party’s ability to proceed with the convention as scheduled.

The PDP’s national convention is expected to attract significant attention from party members, politicians, and the general public. The lawsuit has added a new layer of complexity to the event, and its resolution will be important for the party’s stability and growth. As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how the court will rule and what implications this will have for the PDP’s national convention and the party’s future.
