The Peoples Democratic Party’s National Working Committee has refuted allegations of signature forgery leveled against its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The party clarified that Anyanwu personally signed a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission announcing the PDP’s upcoming national convention, which is scheduled for November 15‑16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
At a press conference in Abuja, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba disclosed that Anyanwu had signed several official letters, including the notice to INEC about the convention. Ologunagba noted that these letters were signed just hours before the 102nd National Executive Committee meeting on August 25.
The denial comes as the PDP prepares for its national convention, a key event in Nigeria’s political calendar that will bring together party members and leaders to discuss major issues and decide the party’s future direction. By confirming Anyanwu’s involvement in signing the documents, the party seeks to reassure members and the public that its internal processes are transparent and legitimate.
The incident underscores the importance of verifying information and ensuring document authenticity, especially within political parties and electoral processes. As the convention approaches, the issue of alleged signature forgery is likely to remain under close scrutiny. The PDP’s ability to address the allegations and maintain transparency will be crucial for preserving the trust of its members and the broader public, and for ensuring that its activities are conducted fairly and openly.
