No sensible Nigerian should support booby trap of emergency rule to tackle insecurity - Shehu

Mahdi Shehu, a prominent Nigerian commentator, has sharply criticized the country’s political system, describing it as driven by greed, deceit, and inhumanity. In a recent post, he likened the major political parties to biblical figures to illustrate their alleged selfish ambitions and betrayals.

Shehu compared the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Pharaoh of Scripture, portraying the party as characterized by terror, greed, deception, dictatorship, and blind ambition. While acknowledging that some party members may be virtuous, he argued that the majority embody the wickedness and false claim to divine authority associated with Pharaoh.

Turning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shehu described its members as “repentant wolves” who continue to exploit others. He claimed the party is severely weakened, suffering negative consequences and lacking the support of spiritual leaders.

The Labour Party (LP), according to Shehu, is driven by envy, greed, backstabbing, and treachery, with some members allegedly betraying the party’s cause for financial gain. He characterized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a coalition of sworn enemies united by desperation for power, whose members carry a sense of entitlement and harbor hatred.

Smaller parties, Shehu noted, consist of a mix of good and bad individuals, often motivated by greed and poverty. Many of these parties are relatively unknown outside their local areas and tend to prioritize financial gain during election periods.

Citing James 4:1‑4—“You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight”—Shehu argued that Nigeria’s political crisis stems from the selfish desires and greed of those in power. This mindset, he said, has produced a life of suffering, fear, instability, and deceit across the nation.

Shehu’s comments underscore the need for reform and accountability in Nigeria’s political system, highlighting pervasive corruption, inequality, and social unrest. Addressing these issues is essential for achieving a more stable and prosperous future.
