The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to criticisms from the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the economic reforms and financial transparency initiatives of Governor Dauda Lawal. In a statement, the PDP described the APC’s comments as “politically motivated and borne out of frustration.”
According to the PDP, the APC’s criticism is unfounded, given its own history of governance in the state. The party noted that the APC had controlled the state for eight consecutive years, during which time it allegedly looted the state’s resources without accountability. The PDP claimed that the APC’s current criticism reflects its frustration over the success of Governor Lawal’s reforms, which have reportedly blocked corrupt channels and leakages that previously diverted public funds.
The PDP also addressed a specific allegation made by the APC, which claimed that Hajiya Rakkiya Ahmad Dodo receives a monthly payment of N300 million. The PDP denied this claim, describing it as false and malicious. The party highlighted the current administration’s introduction of a transparent revenue collection system, where all funds are remitted into the state’s account for the benefit of the people. This, the PDP argued, is in contrast to the previous APC government, which operated with cash collections that were prone to corruption.
The exchange between the two parties comes as Governor Lawal’s administration continues to implement economic reforms and financial transparency initiatives. The PDP’s response suggests that the party is committed to defending its record and pushing back against criticism from the opposition. As the political landscape in Zamfara State continues to evolve, the ongoing debate between the PDP and APC is likely to remain a key aspect of the state’s governance and economic development.
