NCC staff promotion controversy resolved internally

No federal character breach in NCC promotions — NCSCN on victimisation allegations

The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria has intervened in the controversy surrounding the 2025 staff promotion exercise at the Nigerian Communications Commission. The council is urging aggrieved staff members to seek redress through internal mechanisms rather than engaging in negative campaigns against the organization.

The controversy arose from allegations of injustice in the conduct of the promotional examinations. However, following an independent inquiry, the council found no evidence of grievous issues of victimization or deliberate marginalization. The investigation revealed that the promotion exams were open to all eligible staff, and interview panels included external observers from all six geopolitical zones.

The council’s Executive Director, Blessing Akinlosotu, stated that the exams were conducted in line with the Public Service Rules and the commission’s organizational structure and manpower plan. The outcome of the exams reflected the commission’s vacancy structure, and no deliberate marginalization or breach of federal character was established. Some qualified staff could not be promoted due to limited available positions.

The council acknowledged some technical and logistical hitches during the exams, including long hours and scheduling during religious fasting periods, but described them as administrative lapses rather than acts of victimization. Akinlosotu urged protesting staff to show remorse and embrace dialogue and appealed to the NCC leadership to exercise forgiveness and ensure no staff is dismissed over this controversy.

The council also cautioned the media against sensationalizing internal administrative matters, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and fact verification in reporting sensitive issues. The NCSCN remains committed to fighting injustice and promoting transparency in public institutions, while also warning against the use of civil society organizations as tools for internal vendettas or destabilization.

The intervention by the National Civil Society Council of Nigeria aims to resolve the controversy and promote a peaceful resolution to the issues surrounding the 2025 staff promotion exercise at the Nigerian Communications Commission. With the council’s findings and recommendations, the matter is expected to be laid to rest, allowing the organization to focus on its core mandate and responsibilities.
