PDP Suspends Top Officials Amid Party Infighting

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria has suspended two of its national officers, Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary, and Umar Bature, the National Organizing Secretary, for a period of one month. This decision was made by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) following a court ruling that halted the party’s planned national convention.

According to reports, the NWC had issued a formal warning letter to Anyanwu and Bature on September 30, 2025, citing allegations of misconduct, including unauthorized communications, anti-party activities, and actions that undermined party unity and protocols. The letter served as a final caution, urging the duo to comply with NWC directives to avoid further disciplinary measures.

Despite the warning, the pair’s continued involvement in disruptive activities led to their suspension. The party stated that this decision underscores its commitment to upholding internal discipline, democratic processes, and transparency. The NWC’s proactive steps, including the issuance of the warning letter, demonstrate its resolve to safeguard the party’s integrity ahead of upcoming national engagements.

The suspension of Anyanwu and Bature, along with two other party officials, Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade and Deputy Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha, is seen as a significant move by the party to maintain order and discipline within its ranks. The party’s national convention, which was scheduled to take place, has been put on hold due to the court ruling, and the NWC is taking steps to ensure that the party’s internal processes are adhered to.

The PDP’s decision to suspend its national officers highlights the importance of internal discipline and adherence to party protocols. As the party prepares for upcoming national engagements, it is taking proactive steps to safeguard its integrity and maintain transparency. The suspension of Anyanwu and Bature serves as a reminder that the party is committed to upholding its democratic processes and will not tolerate any actions that undermine its unity and protocols.
