1,000 NNPP members defect to APC in Kano — Daily Nigerian

Over 1,000 members of the New Nigerian People’s Party and the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano State have defected to the All Progressives Congress. The defections were announced at a gathering at the Fine Time Events Centre in Kano, where the group cited President Bola Tinubu and Senator Barau Jibrin’s interventions as the motivation behind their decision.

According to a statement by Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity, the defectors were led by Aminu Minjibir. Minjibir stated that despite their tireless efforts for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, they were disappointed with the New Nigerian People’s Party’s performance in Kano State. The group’s leader expressed regret that the party was not adequately addressing the needs of the people of Kano.

Senator Jibrin, who welcomed the defectors into the All Progressives Congress, described their decision as a wise choice. He noted that the New Nigerian People’s Party’s popularity was waning, while the APC continues to thrive as the largest party in Africa, with notable achievements in human development. The senator commended the defectors for making the right decision, emphasizing the APC’s commitment to the well-being of its members and the nation.

The mass defection is significant, as it reflects the shifting political landscape in Kano State. The All Progressives Congress has been working to expand its base in the region, and this latest development is seen as a major boost to the party’s efforts. The defectors’ decision to join the APC is also an indication of the party’s growing appeal to former members of the New Nigerian People’s Party and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

The defections are expected to have implications for the political dynamics in Kano State, potentially influencing future elections and the balance of power in the region. As the All Progressives Congress continues to grow in strength, it remains to be seen how the New Nigerian People’s Party and other opposition parties will respond to this latest development.
