Venezuela US military action possible amid Maduro tensions

Trump hints Maduro’s days are numbered — RT World News

US President Donald Trump has hinted that Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro’s tenure may be coming to an end, amid a significant military buildup in the Caribbean. In a recent interview with CBS’ ’60 Minutes,’ Trump suggested that Maduro’s days as president are numbered, citing the country’s alleged role in narcotics trafficking.

The US has accused Maduro of running “narcoterrorist” cartels that smuggle drugs into the country and has offered a bounty for his arrest. Trump has deployed major naval assets to the western Caribbean and carried out strikes in international waters against vessels accused of drug trafficking. Maduro has rejected the accusations, claiming the US president is “fabricating a new war.”

The US military presence in the region has raised concerns about a potential land strike in Venezuela. According to reports, the White House is considering operations inside the country and has identified potential targets, including drug-smuggling sites. The US has deployed approximately 10,000 soldiers, 6,000 sailors, and eight Navy warships to the region, with the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier group expected to arrive later this week. F-35 jets are also stationed in Puerto Rico.

When asked about the military buildup, Trump neither confirmed nor denied reports of a possible land strike, stating that he does not discuss potential military actions with reporters. The Venezuelan government has condemned the buildup as a violation of sovereignty and an attempted coup, seeking support from Russia, China, and Iran. Russia, which recently ratified a new partnership with Venezuela, has expressed “strong support for the Venezuelan leadership in defending national sovereignty.”

The situation has sparked concerns about a potential escalation of tensions between the US and Venezuela. The US has a history of imposing sanctions on Venezuelan officials and has been critical of Maduro’s government. The ongoing military buildup and diplomatic tensions have significant implications for regional stability and global relations. As the situation continues to unfold, international observers are closely monitoring developments, awaiting further clarification on the US’s intentions and the potential consequences for Venezuela and the region.
