Lagos police declare Sowore wanted — Daily Nigerian

The Lagos State Police Command has declared activist Omoyele Sowore wanted for allegedly planning to incite public disorder and obstruct major roads in the state. According to Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh, Sowore is accused of coordinating activities intended to disrupt public peace, and the command is closing in on him and his associates.

At a press briefing on Monday at the Iyana‑Oworo section of the Third Mainland Bridge, Jimoh warned that Sowore should surrender at the nearest police station or face arrest wherever he is found. He stated that anyone attempting to cause disturbance or block roads will face the full weight of the law. Intelligence reports indicate that Sowore and his associates planned demonstrations at strategic locations, including the Third Mainland Bridge, Lekki Tollgate and Freedom Park. The commissioner described the alleged plan as criminal, warning that it could trigger severe traffic congestion and endanger lives.

Jimoh noted that 13 suspects have been arrested in connection with the planned protest, while Sowore allegedly fled. Investigations are ongoing to identify sponsors and collaborators. To prevent potential disruptions, officers have been deployed across key areas—especially major bridges and highways—where roadblocks and diversions are in place. These measures are temporary and aimed at safeguarding peace and protecting critical infrastructure.

The commissioner explained that the Third Mainland Bridge was not designed to hold stationary weight, and any gathering on it could pose structural risks. He also addressed tension linked to recent demolitions in parts of Lagos, particularly in the Oworo‑Soki area, stating that eligible residents have already received compensation. Jimoh urged Lagos residents to continue their normal activities without fear, assuring that security agencies are fully deployed to maintain order.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to enforcing the law without fear or favour, stressing that freedom of expression must not turn into a public nuisance or risk lives. The police command will apprehend, investigate and prosecute anyone attempting to undermine public safety in Lagos. With the situation being closely monitored, residents can expect a strong response to any attempts to disrupt public peace.
