PDP Crisis: Damagum Petitions IGP Over Secretariat Invasion

Damagum petitions IGP, accuses Anyanwu of PDP HQ invasion to install factional chair

The Peoples Democratic Party’s national chairman, Umar Damagum, has filed a complaint with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, regarding an alleged attack on the party’s national secretariat. The incident occurred on November 3, 2025, when the suspended national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, reportedly led a group of individuals to forcibly take over the secretariat.

According to Damagum’s petition, dated October 3, Anyanwu was accompanied by other suspended party officials, including Abdulrahman Mohammed, Kamaldeen Ajibade, Okechukwu Osuoha, and Umaru Bature. The petition alleges that the group attempted to install a factional leadership, with the backing of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The incident reportedly involved violence, with the group breaking into offices, attacking staff, and disrupting activities at the secretariat. Damagum stated that the attackers used tear gas, guns, knives, cutlasses, and sticks, resulting in injuries to several staff members. A female staff member was reportedly resuscitated after suffocating from tear gas, while three others are currently receiving treatment in the hospital for their injuries.

The alleged invasion has raised concerns about the stability and leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party. The party has been experiencing internal conflicts, and this incident may exacerbate the situation. The Inspector-General of Police has been asked to investigate the matter and take necessary action to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of the party’s staff and members.

The incident highlights the ongoing struggles within the party, with different factions vying for control. The involvement of high-ranking officials and a government minister has added complexity to the situation. As the investigation unfolds, the party’s ability to resolve its internal conflicts and maintain stability will be closely watched. The outcome of this incident may have significant implications for the party’s future and its role in Nigerian politics.
