China’s ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s fight against terrorism in a statement released Thursday after meeting with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. Ambassador Dunhai said China “firmly supports” the Nigerian government’s development plans that reflect the country’s unique circumstances and stressed that China, as a strategic partner, will back Nigeria’s efforts to pursue a development path suited to its specific needs.
China also reiterated its opposition to any external interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs, especially when such interference is justified under the pretext of religion or human rights. This stance echoes earlier warnings from the Chinese government against outside meddling. At a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday, Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, rejected the U.S. government’s proposal to launch military action in Nigeria, underscoring China’s policy of non‑interference in the domestic matters of other nations.
Ambassador Dunhai’s remarks highlighted China’s willingness to continue providing assistance to Nigeria in combating terrorism and maintaining domestic stability. This commitment aligns with China’s broader policy of supporting its partners in both development and security endeavors.
