The Federal Executive Council has approved the construction of official residences for key federal court heads and greenlit major water and infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory. Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, announced this after the FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu.
The approved projects include the design and construction of residences for the President of the Court of Appeal, the President of the Industrial Court, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court. According to Wike, work on the residences had commenced earlier, with consortium arrangements in place to ensure timely delivery.
In addition to the residential projects, the Council approved new water projects to serve satellite towns in the FCT, including Karu, Karshi, Orozo, and Bwari. This move follows President Tinubu’s earlier inauguration of the Greater Abuja Water Supply project, which promised to extend services to satellite towns. The new phase is expected to be completed by May next year.
The FEC also ratified rehabilitation work at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, which was awarded under emergency procurement. The conference centre’s rehabilitation aims to bring it up to international standards, and it has since been inaugurated by the President.
Furthermore, the Council approved a new contract for engineering infrastructure in the Maitama II District of the FCT. The project, which covers over 786 hectares of land, had been previously awarded but never took off. With the new approval, the government aims to provide necessary infrastructure to open up the district, much of which has already been allocated.
These approvals demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and services in the FCT. The construction of official residences for key court heads and the expansion of water services to satellite towns are expected to have a positive impact on the region’s development. As the projects progress, the government will likely face the challenge of ensuring timely completion and effective utilization of resources.
