Mao Ohuabunwa Leads New PDP Board of Trustees

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has appointed new leaders to its Board of Trustees (BoT). Mao Ohuabunwa has taken over as Chairman, while Isah Dansidi has been named Secretary. This development follows the replacement of Adolphus Wabara and Ahmed Makarfi, who can no longer serve in their previous capacities due to their public stance on the ongoing intra-party crisis.

The inauguration of the new BoT was conducted by factional Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, in Abuja on Friday. A communique issued after the event stated that Wabara and Makarfi’s public positions on the crisis compromised the neutrality, integrity, and moral authority of the BoT. As a result, the Board unanimously approved the election of Ohuabunwa and Dansidi to lead the newly constituted BoT.

Ohuabunwa, who hails from the South, and Dansidi, from the North, are expected to bring balance and neutrality to the party’s leadership. The communique expressed appreciation to the outgoing officers for their past services and wished them well in their future endeavors. The BoT also commended stakeholders for their resilience and continued faith in the PDP, despite recent challenges.

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to genuine reconciliation, cooperation, and strengthening the internal democratic culture of the party. It emphasized the importance of adhering to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, INEC Guidelines, and the Party’s Constitution to ensure the PDP remains a true custodian of Nigeria’s democratic ideals.

The development is significant, as it marks a new chapter in the PDP’s efforts to address its internal crisis and move forward. With the new leadership in place, the party is expected to focus on promoting transparency, inclusiveness, and institutional respect. As the PDP navigates this critical period, its ability to maintain unity and uphold democratic principles will be closely watched by stakeholders and the international community.
