The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned an incident at Government Day Secondary School, Amule, where Professor Raheem Adaramaja, Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWASUBEB), allegedly humiliated teachers. Eyewitnesses say Adaramaja forced teachers, including the school’s Vice Principal, to sweep the premises in front of students during an inspection visit. He reportedly accused the staff of maintaining an unkempt environment, despite their explanation that the students had just returned from break time.

The PDP described Adaramaja’s actions as a “severe abuse of office” and a “public degradation” of teachers who are already working under challenging conditions. In a statement, State Publicity Secretary Olusegun Olusola Adewara questioned whether this incident sets a new standard for the teaching profession in Kwara. The party called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) to defend its members and ensure that teachers’ dignity is respected.

The NUT’s Ilorin East branch expressed sympathy for the school’s management and staff, condemning Adaramaja’s behavior as “totally unacceptable and uncalled for.” Branch chairman Comrade Saka Saafi Adanla assured that the state NUT leadership is working to address the issue and protect teachers’ rights and dignity.

The incident has sparked outrage, with many demanding a public apology from Adaramaja to the teachers and the broader teaching community in Kwara State. The PDP has also urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to publicly condemn the actions and take disciplinary measures to prevent similar occurrences. These developments highlight concerns about the treatment of teachers in Kwara State and underscore the need for greater respect and support for education professionals.
