The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) announced that its primary election to select a candidate for the 2026 governorship race in Osun State will be held on December 13, 2025. The disclosure came from the party’s state chairman, Mr. Tosin Odeyemi, in a statement issued in Osogbo, the state capital. Odeyemi said the party has made the necessary arrangements to ensure a successful primary and expressed confidence that the NNPP will not only contest the governorship poll but also strive to win.
According to the chairman, at least four aspirants have shown interest in contesting the election, with additional individuals indicating a desire to join the party. He attributed the growing interest to the current crises within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the divisions in the All Progressives Congress (APC) over allegations of a planned imposition of a candidate. Describing the NNPP as a “new bride” in Osun, Odeyemi suggested the party is poised to benefit from the prevailing political turmoil.
Odeyemi emphasized that the 2026 gubernatorial election will be a “different ball game” in Osun, with the NNPP ready to “spring surprises.” The party’s emergence as a third force in the state’s political landscape is viewed as a significant development ahead of the election. With the primary scheduled for December 13, 2025, the chairman expressed optimism that the people of Osun are prepared to support the NNPP’s candidate.
Given the current political climate, the NNPP’s chances of making an impact in the 2026 governorship election are considered notable. As the political environment in Osun continues to evolve, the primary election is expected to be a crucial milestone in the party’s bid to challenge the dominance of the PDP and APC. The outcome will be closely watched, as it will determine the NNPP’s candidate and could shape the course of the governorship race.
