President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) has issued an apology to Nigerians regarding the cash crunch resulting from the Federal Government’s naira redesign policy. This apology follows the disappointing performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recent presidential and national assembly elections held in Kaduna State. In his address, the President urged the people of Kaduna to support the APC governorship candidate, Senator Uba Sani, in the upcoming election.
Buhari emphasized that the naira redesign policy was not intended to inflict hardship on the populace. Speaking in a viral video in Hausa, which was monitored by our correspondent in Kaduna, he clarified that the Central Bank’s monetary policy aimed to enhance the economy rather than cause distress. He expressed gratitude to the citizens for their trust in him as their elected president and reiterated his commitment to improving the nation’s economic situation.
In his appeal, Buhari stated, “I apologise to you for the hardship caused by the change of the Naira. It was done to boost the economy of the country, not to cause hardship to anybody.” He further urged the people of Kaduna, whom he considers home, to vote for Senator Uba Sani and all APC candidates for the state assembly. He highlighted Sani’s qualifications, noting their collaboration in the Senate and his demonstrated capacity and competence, assuring voters that Sani would exceed expectations in his performance.
Meanwhile, discussions are underway regarding a potential alliance between the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party, aimed at challenging the APC’s hold on power in Kaduna State. Felix Hyet, the Chairman of the PDP in Kaduna and former Minister of Aviation, has called on the citizens to unite and oust the APC government by supporting the PDP governorship candidate, Isa Ashiru.
