Senator Ned Nwoko has said that his wife, Regina Daniels, needs rehabilitation to address substance‑abuse issues, citing concerns for her well‑being and her ability to care for their children. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Nwoko expressed his desire for Daniels to receive proper treatment, pointing to a series of alarming toxicology results that, in his view, indicate a need for intervention.
According to Nwoko, Daniels’ behavior has changed significantly, with violent and destructive tendencies emerging amid recurrent health crises. He emphasized the importance of creating a healthy environment for their two children, stating, “I want her alive and healthy, not just for me, but for our children.” He also disclosed that he has had to hospitalise Daniels on multiple occasions due to drug overdoses, which he believes make rehabilitation essential.
Nwoko presented toxicology reports showing high levels of various substances in Daniels’ system, which he claims are evidence of her substance abuse. He accused those advising Daniels against seeking medical help of being her “real enemies” and harming her children’s well‑being. Daniels’ family, however, denied the allegations, dismissing the claims of substance abuse as baseless.
Responding to criticism, Nwoko said he had trusted Daniels’ siblings and friends to be a positive influence, but instead they allegedly exploited her resources to supply drugs. He expressed frustration, saying, “Imagine the pain of a husband trying to help his wife recover from an addiction, only to have the process sabotaged by her siblings and friends.”
The marital crisis came to light when Daniels accused Nwoko of physically assaulting her, an allegation he denied, attributing her behaviour to substance abuse. The situation has sparked public debate, with many calling for Daniels to seek help. Nwoko’s appeal for his wife to receive treatment underscores the welfare of their children and highlights the need for support and resources to address substance‑abuse problems.
