Anambra guber poll most transparent, well organised

The Anambra State governorship election held on 6 November has been described as one of the most transparent and well‑organized polls in the state’s history. Sly Ezeokenwa, National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a free, credible and peaceful election.

According to INEC’s official results, APGA candidate Professor Chukwuma Soludo won with 422,664 votes, while his closest rival, Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), received 99,445 votes. The Returning Officer, Professor Edogah Omoregie, declared Soludo the winner on Sunday in Awka.

Ezeokenwa commended INEC for ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the process and thanked the residents of Anambra State for their peaceful conduct and cooperation, as well as the media for their professional reporting. He noted that the state had never witnessed an election conducted as smoothly as the one on 6 November. Voter turnout was significant, and Soludo emerged victorious in the majority of local government areas.

The APC and other political parties have yet to respond to the outcome. International observers and the local community have hailed the election as a success, citing its transparency and credibility. Professor Soludo’s victory signals a new era for Anambra State, with expectations that the incoming governor will address pressing issues such as infrastructure development and economic growth.

As the state prepares for the transition of power, residents are hopeful that the new administration will bring positive change and development. The successful conduct of the Anambra State governorship election is seen as a testament to Nigeria’s growing democratic credentials, setting a high standard for future elections. INEC’s performance has been praised as a model for other electoral bodies in the region, and the election will be remembered as a milestone in the country’s electoral history.
