Cooking gas price increases in Nigeria

The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, is expected to fall further in the coming days, according to Olatunbosun Oladapo, the immediate past president of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers. This outlook follows a recent decline in prices as supply issues have eased nationwide. In Abuja, retailers are now selling LPG at N1,500 per kilogram, down from N2,000 just weeks ago. Major suppliers—including NIPCO, AA Rano, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, and Ranoil—are offering LPG at N1,090‑N1,100 per litre, a reduction from the previous N1,200.

Oladapo emphasized that, despite the recent drop, the association hopes for further price reductions, especially with the festive season approaching. Ensuring product availability remains a top priority, and the price trend will be closely monitored over the next week or two. The decline in cooking‑gas prices is a welcome development for consumers who have been burdened by high energy costs.

The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers has been actively addressing supply‑chain challenges and increasing LPG availability. As demand for cooking gas continues to rise, the association’s efforts to stabilize prices and secure a steady supply are crucial. The easing of supply glitches—long a major industry challenge—has contributed significantly to the price drop. Increased production and distribution by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and other major suppliers have helped create a more stable market.

Looking ahead, the anticipated further decrease in LPG prices is expected to relieve consumers and boost economic activity during the festive period. The association will continue to monitor the market and work toward keeping LPG prices stable and affordable. With lower prices, it is optimistic that demand for cooking gas will keep growing, driving economic growth and development across the country.
