The Sokoto State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has established a committee to oversee the state’s participation in the party’s upcoming national convention. The event, which took place on Tuesday in Sokoto, was chaired by State Chairman Hon. Muhammadu Bello Aliyu Goronyo, who emphasized the importance of unity and discipline within the party.
According to a statement by State Publicity Secretary Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal, the committee is chaired by State Organising Secretary Alhaji Abubakar Chika Shuni, with Assistant State Secretary Alhaji Mustapha Lanas Gidadawa serving as secretary. Other members include Hon. Abubakar Magaji, Minority Leader of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, as well as Barr. Abdulrahman Abubakar, State Legal Adviser, and Alhaji Nasiru Shehu Kware, State Auditor.
The committee’s primary objective is to ensure the smooth participation of Sokoto delegates at the national convention, scheduled to take place on November 15 and 16. In addition to Sanyinnawal, who is also the Publicity Secretary, the committee comprises Chairman of the Local Government Chairmen Forum Alhaji Bello Mai Karfi and PDP North-West Zonal Youth Leader Atiku Muhammad Yabo.
Sanyinnawal noted that the Sokoto chapter remains committed to promoting internal democracy and unity ahead of future elections. The establishment of this committee is a crucial step in this process, as it will facilitate effective coordination and representation of the state’s interests at the national convention.
The PDP’s national convention is a significant event in Nigeria’s political calendar, as it brings together party members from across the country to shape the party’s direction and leadership. As one of the major opposition parties in Nigeria, the PDP’s national convention is likely to have far-reaching implications for the country’s political landscape.
With the committee in place, the Sokoto State chapter of the PDP is well-positioned to make a meaningful contribution to the national convention and promote the party’s interests in the region. As the party prepares for future elections, the committee’s work will be crucial in ensuring that the Sokoto chapter is united and effective in its participation.
