Barcelona rule out Messi return to Nou Camp

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has ruled out the possibility of Lionel Messi returning to the club, despite speculation surrounding the footballer’s future. Messi, who left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, has been linked with a move back to Europe after joining Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.

The 38-year-old Argentine footballer had failed to agree on a new contract with Barcelona before his departure, bringing an end to his 21-year association with the LaLiga giants. Following a two-year spell in France, Messi joined Inter Miami, but rumors have circulated about a potential return to the Nou Camp.

However, Laporta has sought to temper these rumors, stating that he does not want to fuel unrealistic speculation. In an interview with Radio Catalunya, Laporta expressed his respect for Messi and the club, emphasizing that it would be inappropriate to entertain rumors that are not grounded in reality.

Laporta also revealed that Messi had recently visited the Nou Camp, describing it as a “nice gesture.” The Barcelona president noted that Messi had arrived unannounced, accompanied by friends, after finishing dinner. Laporta’s comments suggest that while Messi will always be welcome at the club, there are no plans to re-sign him.

The development brings clarity to Messi’s situation, as he seeks to maintain his fitness and playing time. With his contract at Inter Miami, the footballer’s future remains a topic of interest, and Laporta’s statement provides a clear indication of Barcelona’s position. As the football world continues to follow Messi’s career, the club’s decision not to pursue a reunion will likely have significant implications for the player’s next moves.
