Camp Nou is his home - Barcelona president on Messi's possible return

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has ruled out the possibility of Lionel Messi returning to the club, despite ongoing speculation about the Argentine’s future. Messi left Barcelona for Paris Saint‑Germain in 2021 after failing to agree on a new contract, ending a 21‑year association with the LaLiga giants. Following a two‑year spell in France, he joined Inter Miami in Major League Soccer, prompting rumors of a potential comeback to the Nou Camp.

In an interview with Radio Catalunya, Laporta sought to temper these rumors, stating that he does not want to fuel unrealistic speculation. He expressed respect for Messi and the club, emphasizing that entertaining unfounded rumors would be inappropriate. Laporta did note that Messi had recently visited the Nou Camp “as a nice gesture,” arriving unannounced with friends after dinner.

While Messi will always be welcome at Barcelona, Laporta made it clear that there are no plans to re‑sign him. This clarification comes as Messi focuses on maintaining his fitness and playing time with Inter Miami, where his contract remains a topic of interest. The president’s statement provides a definitive indication of Barcelona’s position, suggesting that any future moves for the 38‑year‑old will not involve a reunion with the club.
