The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied allegations that it plans to attack former Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle during his visit to the state. In a statement issued on Thursday, the party described the claims as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create unnecessary tension. According to the party’s Publicity Secretary, Halliru Andi, the PDP has no intention of attacking anyone.
Under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, the PDP has promoted peace and sanity, dismantling the political‑thuggery networks established by the previous All Progressives Congress (APC) administration. The party’s current focus is on the upcoming National Elective Convention, scheduled for 15‑16 November 2025 in Ibadan, and delegates from Zamfara are already en route to the event.
The PDP has urged the APC to maintain peace and order while welcoming their leader, warning against any actions that could disrupt stability. It cautioned its members to avoid provocation, obey the law, and accused the APC of mobilising thugs to attack PDP supporters traveling to Ibadan. The party called on security agencies to note the alleged plan and prevent any breakdown of law and order, emphasizing that the peace and stability of Zamfara State remain its top priority.
Given the state’s history of violence and destruction, the PDP is keen to prevent any recurrence of such incidents, especially in the lead‑up to the national convention. The APC has not responded to the allegations, but the situation is being closely monitored by security agencies and the public. As the convention approaches, all eyes will be on Zamfara State to see how the situation unfolds.
