Lawmakers from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the House of Representatives have dismissed rumors of their planned defection to other political parties. The 13 lawmakers, who are part of the Kwankwasiya Movement in Kano State, reaffirmed their loyalty to the NNPP and its leadership during a press conference in Abuja.
Led by Hon. Garba Diso, the lawmakers described reports of their potential defection as “false and malicious.” Their statement comes after two NNPP lawmakers from Kano, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin and Hon. Sagir Koki, formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a recent House plenary session.
Diso emphasized that interactions with members of other parties should not be misconstrued as disloyalty, but rather as a demonstration of their commitment to bipartisan cooperation aimed at promoting good governance, national unity, and progress for all Nigerians. He attributed the rumors to political detractors threatened by the growing influence and unity of the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya family, particularly in Kano State and across Nigeria.
The lawmakers reiterated their dedication to the party’s ideals, which prioritize justice, equity, inclusiveness, and people-centered governance. Diso pledged their continued allegiance to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya Movement, stating that no amount of misinformation or propaganda would shake their faith in the party’s leadership.
The NNPP lawmakers’ commitment to their party comes at a time when political alliances and defections are increasingly common in Nigeria’s political landscape. As the country approaches future elections, the loyalty and unity of political parties will be closely watched. The NNPP lawmakers’ reassurance of their loyalty is significant, as it reinforces the party’s strength and stability in the face of rumors and speculation. With their commitment to bipartisan cooperation and people-centered governance, the lawmakers aim to advance the interests of their constituents and contribute to the country’s progress.
