PDP Has No Future, Says Youth Group

APC lacks spirit of democratic sportsmanship - PDP

A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, known as the Concerned Youth Movement (CYM), has expressed concerns about the party’s future. This comes after former Senate President Bukola Saraki suggested that the party’s national convention, scheduled to take place in Ibadan, be postponed. Saraki cited the party’s current internal issues, stating that no serious politician with electoral ambitions would consider running on the PDP platform in 2027.

The CYM’s Publicity Secretary, Laide Ajao, issued a statement on Friday, emphasizing that Saraki’s comments indicate a bleak future for the PDP. Ajao urged fellow party members to acknowledge the reality of the situation and consider alternative options. The factionalization of the party, coupled with the insistence of a faction loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde to proceed with the national convention, is likely to further divide the party, according to Ajao.

Ajao appealed to PDP members to abandon the party and join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he believes is a more viable and progressive platform in the state. He stated that the PDP has been compromised by self-interested leaders who prioritize personal gain over the greater good. The CYM’s call to action may be a significant development in the Oyo State political landscape, as it suggests that some members are losing faith in the PDP’s ability to effectively represent their interests.

The PDP has faced internal conflicts and power struggles in recent months, which may have contributed to the CYM’s decision to speak out. As the party prepares for its national convention, it remains to be seen how these internal divisions will be addressed and what impact they will have on the party’s future prospects. The CYM’s statement serves as a reminder that political parties in Nigeria must work to maintain the trust and confidence of their members in order to remain relevant and effective.
