The Kaduna State Government has proposed a budget of N985.9 billion for 2026, with a focus on transparent, accountable, and people-centered governance. Governor Uba Sani presented the proposed budget at a town hall meeting, where it was deliberated upon by representatives from various sectors, including civil society, traditional institutions, and the private sector.

The proposed budget allocates N699.7 billion, or 71 percent, to capital expenditure, while N286.2 billion, or 29 percent, will go towards recurrent spending. According to Governor Sani, the town hall meeting was a democratic forum that allowed for public consensus and collective aspiration to shape the budget. The discussions were described as intellectually rich and constructive, with participants commending the strong performance of the 2025 budget and providing recommendations for the 2026 budget.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the government to present a comprehensive two-year performance scorecard across key sectors. The administration has pledged to continue accelerating service delivery, strengthening institutional resilience, and deepening citizen participation. The 2026 budget is focused on consolidating rural transformation for inclusive development, with a emphasis on expanding rural infrastructure, scaling human capital development, and ensuring that every community benefits from inclusive growth.

The proposed budget is part of the government’s efforts to promote transparent and accountable governance, and to ensure that public finance reflects public consensus and collective aspiration. The government has committed to harmonizing the insights and recommendations from the town hall meeting into the final budget. As the state enters 2026, the focus will be on consolidation and forward momentum, with the goal of shaping a Kaduna State defined by progress, shared purpose, and collective ownership of the development journey.

The proposed budget and the town hall meeting are significant steps towards promoting participatory governance and ensuring that the state’s development is driven by the needs and aspirations of its citizens. The government’s commitment to transparency and accountability is expected to enhance the effectiveness of the budget and promote inclusive growth and development in the state.
